One day last summer I visited Penarth with a couple of friends mainly with the aim of visiting Griffin Books. It was everything an independent bookshop should be: full of must-have books alongside lesser known options (there was a really good Welsh fiction section), the friendliest of booksellers and quiet corners in which to perch and deliberate about what books to purchase. We spent ages in there perusing the selection and getting some amazing recommendations of other books to try. They also have a great children’s section with lots of chairs for children to sit and read - I was actually on the hunt for a book for my 2 year old nephew and ended up coming away with two as I just couldn’t pick! Griffin Books also hold some amazing events with the likes of Joanne Harris and Kate Mosse visiting the bookshop. I’d really like to try and make it to one this year.

If you  buy one book:
I am still really enjoying the Faber Faber short stories and Griffin Books had a great selection to choose from including some I hadn't seen in other bookshops before. I went for Petina Gappah's An Elegery of Easterly but I'd recommend any one from this collection.
